How to Paint Straight Lines Perfectly

Ready for your next painting project? Here are some tips from pro painter, Chris on how to get a laser straight line of paint, every time. This method even works on rough surfaces, so don’t worry about spackling and sanding before using this trick.easily-paint

There are two products that make this possible: Clear Caulk, and Frog tape.

What you’ll need in addition to the products mentioned above:

  • Caulking Gun
  • Duct tape
  • Masking Tape*

*Frog Tape prevents paint from bleeding under the tape so we recommend using that in lieu of masking tape.

The first step is to either line your wall or your trim with the frog tape to cover the area in preparation for painting. Make sure your tape is straight so your line will be too!

Now comes the special part – to ensure that the area is completely sealed and you have no color bleeding – we’ll add a thin line of clear caulking. Use your caulk gun to line the top of your tape (the side of the tape against the portion of you wall that will be painted).

You won’t need to use very much caulk, simply line the edge of the tape.

Now go over it quickly with a finger pressing the caulk into both the tape and the drywall to create a light seam and remove the excess.

Now you can begin painting! No worries about getting paint on the tape, that’s what it’s there for. Once you’re finished painting, remove the tape and reveal the straight line!

That’s all there is to it.
